As part of the provincial mental health services continuum, BC Mental Health & Addiction Services (BCMHAS) provides a diverse range of specialized, “one-of-a-kind” tertiary level mental health services to residents across all geographic areas in BC. These include Adult/Geriatric and Neuropsychiatry Services located at Riverview Hospital, Adult Forensic Psychiatric Services located at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital plus six regional clinics, and Child and Youth Mental Health Services located at BC Children’s Hospital. In addition to direct services, BCMHAS acts as a support and resource to service providers across the province, and contributes to research and education.

Vocational Counselor

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated team player to assess and counsel clients with disabilities. Specifically, you will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team in order to facilitate, manage and implement individual vocational rehabilitation plans and ensure effective vocational outcomes.
Your degree in a relevant Social Science is complemented by at least two years’ experience and/or training in Vocational Rehabilitation as well as current registration as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional with the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (CARP). Preference will be given to those with experience working with clients with psychiatric disabilities, and who are eligible for Canadian Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) as per the Commission on CRCC guidelines. Your demonstrated ability to practice psychosocial rehabilitation principles includes expertise in developing and maintaining strong partnerships with internal and community departments, agencies and programs. Good consultation, problem solving and decision-making skills are a must together with the ability to analyze, synthesize and document information from clients. Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills will ensure your success.
