Carl Gann Receives IARP Honor
Kevin Karr Award Highlights IARP Listservers

Each year, IARP presents the Kevin Karr Award for Innovative Rehabilitation Procedure or System. At the IARP 2000 Conference and Exposition held in Dallas, Texas, April 13 - 15, 2000, the 1999 Kevin Karr Award was presented to Carl Gann. Gann has been instrumental in bringing a new and dynamic communications medium to IARP members and the rehabilitation profession: the electronic listserver. This listserver (also referred to as a listserv, or electronic mailing list) has helped to create a common link among members of the IARP Forensic Section specifically, and the Special Interest Sections generally.

Listservers have been in existence for several years. They are primarily electronic subscription lists. An e-mail message sent to the listserver is instantly re-broadcast to everyone on the subscription list. It was at the urging of Gann, that this tool was brought into use - first, by the Forensic Section, and then by all the IARP Special Interest Sections.

Through Gann's guidance as listserver moderator, the Forensic Section listserver has become an integral and indispensable tool for IARP Forensic practitioners. These widely spread individual practitioners now have a tool for sharing information, solving problems, and leveraging their collective expertise to advance their area of specialization within the field of rehabilitation.

The popularity of the listservers as a crucial tool for rehabilitation professionals has grown steadily. Nominator, Dr. Bruce Growick of the Ohio State University and Past President of IARP, states, "I am a subscriber to the listserver and can attest to the value of the information exchanged and the knowledge shared. It is a real tribute to Mr. Gann, as the moderator of the Forensic Section listserver, that the high quality of interchange continues and the volume of messages remain steady."

The listerver, in its simplicity and elegance, has created a vital link among practitioners nationally and has served both IARP and its Special Interest Sections immensely. Congratulations, Carl Gann!
