Don Shrey, Ph.D., CRC
Disability Management Section Chair
FIRST DISABILITY MANAGEMENT SECTION BOARD OF THE
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REHABILITATION PROFESSIONALS WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 28, 2007The first Disability Management Section Board of IARP was established by Section Chair, Dr. Don Shrey, with the first official board meeting held at the IARP annual conference in Washington, DC on April 28, 2007. This is an exciting milestone for the Disability Management Section of IARP, as the new board members bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, creativity and energy to meet the challenges of establishing multiple benefits and resources for our new and expanding membership.
The Disability Management Section Board members will be submitting disability management resource Internet links to IARP staff to include on the DM page of the IARP website. We will also be working in collaboration with the IARP International Committee to assist in forming one new international IARP chapter this year. Bev Webster from Ireland will serve as our international liaison, to extend membership and global networking opportunities, as we build our international chapters. Currently IARP has international chapters in Canada and Ireland. One major goal of the DM Section is to establish a DM Listserve. Enrique Vega, Dr. Norman Hursh and Debbie Frost will collaborate on meeting this goal, which should result in an active Listserve on the IARP website by the fall of 2007. Dr. Antony White will serve as the DM Section representative to the IARP Education Committee, with the goal of creating DM education and training programs for our members, as well as to facilitate the identification of speakers and presenters on DM topics for the IARP annual conference. He will also facilitate the development of a DM website resource library to be made available to members on the IARP website. Debbie Frost and Bev Webster will serve as DM representatives to the IARP Membership Committee, and Wes Jones will explore the expansion of IARP and DM membership among insurance carriers in Canada, while working collaboratively with our new IARP chapter in Canada. Dr. Shrey and Dr. Hursh will explore opportunities for IARP involvement at the International Forum on Disability Management, which is to be held in Berlin in the fall of 2008. They will also collaborate on the writing of an article on International Disability Management, which is to be published in the next issue of RehabPro. Dr. Howard Caston will serve as the DM Board Secretary. IARP’s Disability Management Section members are encouraged to contact our board members to share resource information or to make suggestions that will result in expanded resources and services for our members. Contact addresses for all DM Board members can be found on the IARP website at www.rehabpro.org.
