Overview
This position is responsible to coordinate RTW efforts for claimants who have approved STD claims with The Hartford.  This includes, but is not limited to, discussions with the claimant, employer, provider(s) of care, claim examiner and/or other clinical staff for the express purpose of identifying current capabilities and limitations and matching those to work opportunities with the current employer.  The RTW Coordinator may suggest modified work hours, duties or accommodations to facilitate a RTW Outcome.

Requirements

The RTW Coordinator will:
• Hold credentials and current active professional license where applicable as a Registered Nurse, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, or comparable health care professional.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Certification as CRC is required for Vocational Rehabilitation.
• CDMS, COHN, CRRN or comparable industry certification preferred.
• Must have minimum 2 years prior experience in facilitating RTW for disabled employees.
• Knowledge of RTW best practices, ergonomics, FMLA, and related Human Resources topics required.

Responsibilities

The RTW Coordinator is responsible to:
• Establish a database/spreadsheet for office customers (employers) that reflects key RTW contact(s), contact phone and fax numbers, employer requirements for RTW (such as fitness for duty exams or RTW releases), and whether employer will accept claimants back to work at less than full abilities.
• Manage RTW referrals from Ability Analysts and Clinical Case Managers within 48 hour turnaround time.  Full RTW plan in place within 5 business days from date of referral.
• Documents resolution and status of all RTW referrals in DCS and COT.
• Escalates specific employer issues related to RTW, including failure to take employees back to work, to the appropriate Hartford and employer contacts.
• Provides training to Ability Analysts to improve RTW referrals.
• Contact physicians as needed to clarify current and future abilities, discuss incorporating RTW as part of the treatment plan, and collaborate on accommodations or additional treatment needed to achieve a safe, sustained RTW.
• Interact with employers to identify RTW opportunities for employees who have filed STD claims.  This may include coordinating part time to full time schedules, ergonomic assessments or other accommodations. 
• Where RTW may not be an immediate option, obtain PDA or job description from employer. 
• Collaborate with Center for Ability, the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) and other internal and external resources to identify tools and resources for claimants and employers that can be used to expedite RTW efforts.
• Identify key jobs that have the most lost time incidence at large accounts, and work with employer contacts to provide modifications or alternate work to reduce lost time.
• Based on STD durations, identify ICD9 codes where duration exceeds industry average.  With STD Process Owner and local STD leadership, implement strategies to improve durations.
• Discuss RTW with claimants, set RTW expectations and include them in RTW planning.
• Collaborate with MCMs, BHCMs and RCMs to expedite RTW with own employer or to initiate intervention for those claimants where RTW with own employer is unlikely.
• Educate Employers as to the benefits of RTW with modification.
• Implement proactive approach with new accounts to establish RTW expectations.
