MIARP Meeting Minutes May 23, 2011

1)   Call to Order-Toni, Linda, Debbie, Ken, Janine, Shannon, Joanne, Laura

2) Approval of Minutes-Ken moved, Debbie seconded

3)  Treasurer’s Report- Checking account balance as of April 30, 2011 $9,574.99

4)    Old Business

a)  MI JPD joint conference update from Ken and Debbie

i)    Ethical considerations in job placement and job development presented by Janet Fiore of The Sierra Group.  May 24, 2011 legislation begins federal government contractors must hire people with disabilities and document the efforts of employers’ hiring efforts for people with disabilities.  Conference was very informative, Peckham facilities were very good, and reviews are very positive.  44 people attended (unfortunately lower attendance, there was a strong MiARP showing at the conference) and Ken suggested that we could try and promote the conferences more effectively to increase attendance.  About half the membership was contacted by the board members regarding the conference and this seemed to respond to this kind of marketing effort to promote conference.

ii)   We need to continue these efforts to market our conferences.

 b)  Next conference topics/dates- update from Ken regarding Dr. Lee

i)    No new updates regarding the Dr. Lee.

i)    There is no update on pricing

d)   Set a date in Sept for annual phone meeting

i)  Originally there was discussion about having the annual meeting telephonically.   Ken suggested that we have an annual meeting at the Michigan Rehabilitation Conference.  Ken will keep us updated regarding the MRC schedule (possible day dedicated to private rehabilitation issues) and we will have a breakfast or lunch meeting for our annual meeting.  The conference is scheduled on October 26^th through the 28^th in Grand Rapids.

e)   CPAN update-Linda

i)  There was some recognition provided from CPAN for our donation

ii)    There will be a great deal of legislative activity after the Michigan Budget is approved on May 31, 2011.  Senate Bills 293 and 294 address these issues.  There would be a significant decrease in rehabilitation services if Auto No Fault is modified. 

iii) MiARP should attempt to align with other organizations regarding this legislative action.
