What is Private Rehabilitation?

Private rehabilitation is the provision of rehabilitation services, typically by a for-profit rehabilitation firm or individual, specializing in service provision to injured individuals who are receiving workers compensation and/or long-term disability benefits. Private rehabilitation services include disability management, medical and vocational case management, life care planning, vocational expert consultations, and Social Security Vocational Expert practice.

Private rehabilitation practitioners come from varied backgrounds, including rehabilitation counselors, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, social workers, psychologists, etc. It is a care coordination practice, not a “hands-on” practice.
