Student Paper Competition - Call for Submissions

CALL FOR STUDENT PAPERS
FOR SCHOLARSHIP & PUBLICATION AWARDS
DEADLINE: December 7, 2010
The IARP Case Management Section invites interested Rehabilitation Counseling graduate students to submit papers for presentation at the IARP CM/DM Professional Development Training Symposium in Scottsdale, Arizona in February 10 - 12, 2011.
Suggested topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Absence Management? Presenteeism? Disability Management? What’s up at Work.
- How can technology help vets return to work?
- Making sense of disability benefits when returning to work.
- Do Ethics really have a place in insurance rehabilitation?
- Working with Undocumented Workers: Ethical and Legal Responsibilities
- Social Networking, Technology/Databases: Interactions and Applications for CM / DM
- Disaster Preparedness – role and function of the Disability and Case Manger
All entries must be free-standing papers, written between January 1, 2010 and December 1, 2010. The paper must be done by the student on an independent basis. If two students co-author a paper, both names must be on the submittal application.
The submission requirements include seven copies of the paper in APA 6th edition style (approximately 15 pages); a cover page giving the student's full name, address, telephone number, title of the paper; an abstract (150 words maximum); and a written statement from the student's faculty advisor verifying current student status and that the paper is the sole work of the student. PAPERS MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 7, 2010 to be accepted for the competition. NO EXCEPTIONS.
A panel of rehabilitation counselor educators will review the papers. Reviewers will evaluate each manuscript using 10-point Likert-type scales (10 = high) to assign points in three categories (Content, Organization, Overall Evaluation). Category points will be summed for a “Total Score”.
Scholarships will be awarded at either a Master's or the Doctoral level student (s) with the first place winners category receiving $500, the second place winners receiving $350, and the third place winners receiving $250.
Three student finalists (three doctoral or three master’s level students) will be selected to present their papers at the IARP CM/DM Conference on February 12, 2011. The oral presentation will determine the first, second, and the third place winners. Student will have 20 minutes each to present their papers. Student finalist papers will also be published in the Rehab Pro Journal. Students selected to present their papers will be responsible for all costs (travel, lodging, and per diem) associated with the presentation of their paper; however they will received a complementary conference registration. Local IARP chapters may be able to provide assistance to students from within their respective states. Volunteer opportunities may exist for students for a reduced conference rate who are not selected as finalists.
