Neil Bennett

Neil’s path to becoming a rehabilitation professional...
Neil BennettI began as a vocational re-entry/career counselor in a residential substance abuse treatment center in Anchorage, AK. Through this, I gained tremendous exposure and insight into the multicultural aspects of Alaska and disability.

Neil’s rehabilitation education...
I have a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis on career guidance. My mentor professor was a stroke survivor and taught us beyond what the books could ever convey.

How Neil developed his practice...
It's been upside down! I began as a manager of a start up office of a multi state company. It grew and grew and soon I was managing 35 professionals of a national company. I soon realized I most enjoy the autonomy of managing myself.

Neil’s "Ah-Ha!" moments that shaped or changed his rehabilitation career path...
I enjoy the interaction among the rehabilitation community and the multiple 'aha's that arrive out of the fog.

Outside interests that inform and influence Neil’s work...
Mountain climbing, hiking, sailing...never giving up and appreciating the positive in every situation.

How IARP has served Neil’s career...
Education, networking, friendships, resources, advocacy. And a good round of golf once or twice a year.

Neil’s advice would you give to folks considering a career as a rehabilitation professional...
Know that the first years are the hardest.
