Gail Maron
Gail’s path to becoming a rehabilitation professional...I gained interest in this career path after meeting someone who was working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. I had just graduated with an MA Degree and was not sure of the direction I wanted my career to take. After speaking with this woman about her career, I just knew that that this field was meant for me. I began interviewing, accepted my first job, and have been working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor now for many years.
Gail’s rehabilitation education...
Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Master's Degree in Educational Psychology, Counseling and Guidance. I have worked in Vocational Rehabilitation for over 31 years and as a Social Security Vocational Expert for 13 years.
How Gail developed her practice...
My practice has expanded from work as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor into other areas for which my experience has qualified me. This includes conducting job analyses, ergonomic evaluations, job modifications, etc. I also perform long term disability evaluations, evaluations for forensic settings and marital dissolution cases as well as work for the Social Security Administration as a Vocational Expert. I began conducting Long Term Disability Evaluations, Forensic evaluations, marital dissolution evaluations, and I have had a contract with the SSA/ODAR where I work on a contract basis as a Vocational Expert.
Gail’s "Ah-Ha!" moments that shape her career path?
My Ah Ha moment was when I truly recognized that I loved what I do and when my work makes a difference someone else's life, I have another Ah Ha moment!
Gail’s advice to folks considering a career as a rehabilitation professional...
Learn as much as you can, love what you, and work with both your mind and your heart.
